Searcy School District will honor two outstanding individuals on Wednesday, October 3rd at the annual Teacher of the Year and National Merit Semi-finalist reception.
McRae Elementary School kindergarten teacher Kim Rupard was selected by the entire certified staff in the Searcy Public Schools as the 2018-2019 Searcy Public Schools Teacher of the Year. In her twenty-ninth year of teaching, Rupard is known as a leader at McRae Elementary School. McRae principal Jim Gurchiek has worked with Rupard for the last seventeen years and remarks, “Ms. Rupard is a skilled, professional teacher and leader. She quickly gains the confidence of the parents and her colleagues. They view her as a valuable resource and solid educator.” Rupard’s dedication to children is evident in her classroom. Her colleague Dianna Strayhorn mentioned that Rupard’s personality makes her the wonderful educator she is. Strayhorn adds that Rupard’s heart for children helps make each one feel welcome and at home in the classroom.
We look forward to honoring Ms. Rupard along with her family, friends, and colleagues to celebrate this very special recognition.
In addition to honoring Kim Rupard, the Searcy School District will also recognize Searcy High School senior Jackson Benight , son of Zach and Janet Benight, for being named the only National Merit Semi-finalist in the district. Benight was notified earlier in the month that the National Merit Scholarship Program had released the names of semi-finalists across the nation, which makes up about 1/3 of the 50,000 high scorers on the PSAT exam. With a score of 217, Benight made the list. A well-rounded student who is enrolled in eight Advanced Placement classes this year, Benight is a member of the SHS Quiz Bowl team, the SHS Orchestra, and participates in the National Honor Society and Beta Club. Benight boasts an ACT score of 34, which will certainly help his acceptance into the college of his choice. Though he hasn’t decided on a university as of yet, he plans to major in mechanical engineering and his dream is to become a Disney Imagineer one day! We commend Benight on his outstanding achievement, and we are excited to pay tribute to his accomplishment.
In closing, Searcy School District invites the public to attend the upcoming reception on Wednesday beginning at 3:45 P.M. in Searcy Public Schools Administration Office. Congratulations to Mrs. Kim Rupard and Mr. Jackson Benight!
