A philosopher once said, “Diversity is the one true thing we all have in common. Celebrate it every day.” Searcy High School is striving to do just that this school year.

The Searcy High School Foreign Language Department will be hosting an event next spring to promote the diversity that we have in our school and community. The first ever Searcy High School Multicultural Festival will be held in April. At this time, the foreign language department is inviting students, parents, and community members to volunteer to share their cultures at this event. The teachers are asking volunteers to display exhibits, make food, present performing arts examples, and offer craft activities from around the world.

The teachers realize that all families are unique and have different priorities, needs, talents and time constraints, so they are working to provide as many opportunities for parent and community involvement as possible. Some suggestions are speaking about culture in a culture station, creating a display for a culture station, sharing pictures or souvenirs from a different country, sharing a cultural performance such as song, dance, poetry or theatrics, or bring a traditional food or drink for guests to sample.

Anyone who feels like he/she is able to contribute time or talents may contact Searcy High School teacher Jessica Martin at jmartin@searcyschools.org or leave a message at 501-502-0377.
