Searcy School District was delighted to learn that the White County Master Gardeners named our district a “Friend of Master Gardeners” for 2018. The University of Arkansas -Division of Agriculture and the Master Gardener association awarded us for being an organization that demonstrates outstanding support and advancement of the Master Gardener program.
A greenhouse is located on the Searcy High School campus as part of the agricultural department, and the Master Gardeners have partnered with our students to grow plants and generate funds for scholarships for high school seniors across the county. In addition to this endeavor, they provide plants for our students in the agriculture classes to use as part of their curriculum and even assist with Searcy FFA fundraising efforts.
Not only does the Master Gardeners program partner with our high school students, but the group also may be found on the playgrounds showing elementary school or middle school students how to plant seedlings or even in the flowerbeds of our schools creating colorful and welcoming landscaping.
We are thankful for the Master Gardeners awarding us, but truly this partnership benefits our students, staff members, and patrons in such a positive manner. We are indeed grateful and look forward to many more projects. Searcy School District is also proud to learn that we will be included at the state level as an applicant for the “Friends of Master Gardeners” award when the Arkansas Master Gardener conference is held in April in Hope, Arkansas.
We offer a special “thank you” to the University of Arkansas Extension Service and the White County Master Gardeners for this distinct and thoughtful award.
