TEACHERS and STUDENTS:1.        This year the Guidance Center will stop accepting all requests for schedule changes for the “Spring 2010” semester by DECEMBER 18.   2.       The Guidance Center will not accept any schedule change requests when we return in January.   3.      It is imperative that any student who intends to request a change of classes for the spring semester submit their request before we break for Christmas…..no later than December 18.  4.       This policy also includes students who intend to take OFF-CAMPUS CONCURRENT classes.  All students who plan on taking OFF-CAMPUS CONCURRENT classes must have all of their paperwork in place and schedule adjustments completed by December 18.   You must see Mrs. Roddy to begin the concurrent process ASAP.   5.       Students can pick up   “Schedule Change Forms”   in the Guidance Center beginning November 30.

Searcy High School will administer the ASVAB test on Thursday, December 3, 2009.  All interested students must sign up in the guidance center no later than Wednesday, November 25.

Whispering Oaks Student Housing consists of on-campus apartments at Henderson State University.  As high school juniors and seniors begin to look at possible colleges and housing, we would like to extend a SPECIAL INVITATION to these students and their families to come to our Open House on Sunday, November 8 from 1pm-5pm.  At this time, we will be giving tour of our community and explaining, in further detail, who we are.  We would greatly appreciate you, as high school counselors, to encourage your students interested to attend.  They may RSVP at our website www.campushousing.com/hsu, calling us at (870).230.5070

10th and 11th Grade Students:  The PSAT (National Merit Qualifying Test) will be administered in the high school cafeteria on October 14, 2009.  All interested 10th and 11th grade students must pay $15.00 in the SHS Guidance Center to register for the test.  Each student who registers for the PSAT will receive a practice test so the earlier a student registers the more time they will have to utilize the practice test in preparation for the test. The last day to register for the PSAT is October 7.

REMEMBER: If you did not submit a pre-registration form.... DO NOT request that you now be allowed to select the courses you prefer.  Ample time and much energy were expended in an attempt to get all students to submit their pre-registration forms.  Students who did not submit the appropriate form forfeited their opportunity to make their own selections.

As was explained to you during pre-registration, schedule changes will not be granted EXCEPT for the following reasons:

  • The guidance center has made an error in placing you in the appropriate CORE course.
  • You have opted to take a performanc e class or opted to not take a performance class such as sports, choir, band, drama, etc..
  • You have been placed in a course in which you have already earned a credit.
  • Concurrent classes need to be added or deleted from your schedule.
  • You have an incomplete schedule with empty periods which need to be filled.

Schedules will NOT be altered due to:

  • Student prefers a different elective.
  • Student prefers a different lunch period.
  • Student prefers a different teacher.
  • Student did not complete a summer assignment, if required.

If you request a change, you will NOT be contacted to notify you whether or not the change has been. Instead, you will need to arrive at school on the first day of classes in enough time to go to the cafeteria to pick up your revised schedule. Just assume that if you request falls within the acceptable reasons, the change will be made.  If your request does not fall within the guidelines, the request WILL NOT be granted.

If you see an error in your schedule which falls within the category of acceptable reasons to change a schedule, please complete the information on the greens sheets that were provided during registration NO LATER THAN Monday, August 11th.  The counselors will evaluate the request for change and make the necessary adjustments, if deemed appropriate.
