Answering Math Problems to Build a Pirate

Powering a pirate ship with air

2nd Graders at McRae celebrated International Talk Like a Pirate Day with activities in science, technology, engineering, art and math. Activities included coding DASH robots to launch “cannons” at the enemy to knock ‘em down, answering math problems to create a goofy pirate glyph, designing a waterproof treasure chest to keep yer pirate booty dry, designing pirate ships from recycled school lunch milk cartons to see how far they can travel using only two puffs of air, and creating cannons using plastic cups to launch gold coins as far as possible. It was a shiver me timbers time fer all! Arrgh!
