FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome to Westside Elementary where every child is top priority. A student's elementary years should be a wonderful time where students socially grow, are challenged academically, and opportunities are provided to enrich and develop the whole child. The staff at Westside will work tirelessly to ensure that each child is challenged, cared for, and loved.

In addition to engaging high-quality classroom instruction, students will have the opportunity to grow and develop in areas art, music, technology, and physical education.

Westside Elementary's faculty and staff look forward to working with families and community members to provide a rich educational experience for our students. We thank you for the opportunity to educate and care for your child. We take this honor and responsibility very seriously and will work each day to make their elementary years special and memorable. Please feel free to contact our office with any questions or concerns.

Mr. Kyle Hunt, Principal – Westside Elementary

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Westside Elementary was established in 1990, serving its first students during the 1990-91 school year. Westside began as a kindergarten through fifth grade school. Initially, there were some 350 students, K-5. By the 1994-95 school year, an additional wing had to be added to Westside to accommodate growth. Eight new classrooms were added and the Westside gym was built. Prior to that, physical education activities had taken place in the back half of the cafeteria. By the 1999-2000 school year, Searcy's student population had grown to the point that an addition was added to SHS to allow the 9th grade students to move from AHLF Jr. High to the high school campus. Westside served some 725 students that year. The "ripple effect" saw Westside's 5th grade students move to Southwest Middle School beginning with the 1999-2000 school year. The summer of 2007 saw a complete renovation of all Westside classrooms, hallways, and offices. Westside remained a K-4th grade school until the 2011-2012 school year when, again due to steady growth across the district, a fourth grade wing was added at Southwest Middle School and Westside became a K-3rd grade campus, currently serving approximately 500 students, K-3. Westside continues to be accredited without citation by the advanced association and by the Arkansas Department of Education.
