McRae Elementary School is excited to participate in the Cara McCollum's Birthday Book Project. Cara McCollum former Miss New Jersey and Princeton Graduate lost her life in a tragic car accident. Cara loved books and wanted to share them with everyone. She always worried that many underprivileged children may not receive books and the value of literacy, so she created The Birthday Book Project when she was only sixteen.
"The Cara McCollum's Birthday Book Project" provides brand new, gift-wrapped books to K-5th graders for their birthday to promote the idea that reading is a gift. Cara believed that reading is critical to a child's success- both in school and in life.
