Reasons to Read Aloud

Westside students are being encouraged to read outside the classroom!! This year, we are holding monthly reading challenges in the months of September, October, January, February, and April. (REMINDER: Completed September calendars are due to be turned in next Monday, Oct. 2nd!) Students who read at least 15 minutes every night and log the title of the book read in the calendar square, will receive a free book. This can be a book they read to or with a parent OR a book they are reading independently! If it is a chapter book that takes several days to finish, that’s okay…They just need to write that same title in every square that they read from that book. Reading from Charlotte's Web can count, too!! Parent/Guardians must sign the calendar and have the student return it on the date listed. Students will turn their October calendars into Ms. Kim in the library Nov. 1-3 to pick out their free book!! This is strictly VOLUNTARY and is being offered to encourage our students to improve their reading skills by reading outside of school. Be on the lookout, because October calendars have been distributed and are coming home one day this week so that students can get started Sunday, Oct. 1st!
