Ellen Howell

For Immediate Release

Searcy School District is proud to announce that Searcy High School senior Ellen Howell, daughter of Alan and Rachel Howell, has been named a National Merit Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in its 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

As an academically talented high school senior, Howell has the opportunity to compete alongside other semifinalists representing less than one percent of high school seniors who scored high on the PSAT. The scholarship competition takes into consideration the student’s academic records, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership skills, and honors or awards received. An essay, her official transcript, and letters of recommendation are also equally important.

Howell plans to attend Harding University in the fall of 2024 with a focus on mechanical engineering. She earned a 34 on the ACT and 1470 on the PSAT. Her extracurricular activities include singing in the Searcy High School choir, playing soccer for the SHS Lady Lions, serving on the Youth Advisory Council, working at Sonic and participating in her youth group at church.

Congratulations to Ellen on this outstanding accomplishment, and Searcy School District wishes her the very best as she continues through the National Merit Scholarship Program process.
