Searcy High School recently learned that students in Ms. Lori Nielsen's (Spanish) and Ms. Rachel McCready’s (French) foreign language classes have earned state and global recognition for demonstrating proficiency in English and one or more languages. Searcy High School seniors  Adrienne Mason, Maria Acevedo , and Lucero Chena earned the Arkansas Biliteracy Seal. The Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy is awarded each spring and fall to students in grades 9 through 12 and is sponsored by the Arkansas Foreign Language Teachers Association (AFLTA) and the Arkansas Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ARKTESOL). The Arkansas Department of Education officially endorsed the Seal in June 2018.

In addition to this state recognition, Searcy High School students Maria Acevedo, Lucero Chena, Andrea Flores and Sierra Tackwell received the Global Seal of Biliteracy.  The Global Seal of Literacy is a credential that celebrates language skills and expands the future opportunities  in multi-lingual environments.

Searcy School District is proud that students at Searcy High School have been included in this distinguished group of students across Arkansas and the world. These students will be able to use these recognitions on college and job applications to show future employers and admissions offices that they are proficient in two or more languages. Searcy School Disrtict congratulates Mason, Acevedo, Chena. Flores, and Tackwell  as well as the Searcy High School foreign language department on these outstanding honors.
