Attention Community Members:

Tornadoes, nature’s most violent storms, have no defined geographic hazard boundary. All people and property in White County, Arkansas, are exposed to the risk of damage from tornadoes.

Searcy School District is proud to offer the Ahlf Jr. High Annex Gym/Safe Room, which, as a result of FEMA grant funding, serves as a community tornado shelter during non-school hours. In the event of a tornado warning with tornado sirens activated by the City of Searcy, the shelter will be open to the general public during non-school hours. School hours are 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. After 5:00 p.m. and prior to 7:00 A.M., the shelter will be open to the public only when the City of Searcy has activated the emergency tornado siren warning tones. The shelter will not be opened during the event of a tornado watch. The tornado warning must be specific to the Searcy area in order for the shelter to be accessible to the public. Due to the building serving a dual purpose as a shelter and school building, unfortunately, pets are not allowed. Our first priority must be human safety.

Again, the shelter will only be open to the public after school hours, 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M. In the event of a tornado during the school day, the shelter will not be available to

the public as it will provide shelter for our students and staff members.

Any questions or concerns should be directed to Dr. Marc Sherrell, Assistant Superintendent, Searcy School District. msherrell@searcyschools.org, 501-268-3517
