Maria Spearn

Searcy School District congratulates Searcy High School senior Maria Spearn for being named the Arkansas state winner for the Distinguished Young Women (DYW) program! The DYW is a program providing young women scholarship opportunities at both the state and national level. Nationally, over $130,000 in scholarships will be awarded in this year’s contest.

In addition to scholarship opportunities, the young women participate in Life Skills Workshops that assist in preparing them for life after high school. Maria, daughter of Jeff and Christine Spearn, will represent Arkansas in the national contest in Mobile, Alabama in June.

The contest consists of five categories including Scholastics, Interview, Talent, Fitness, and Self-Expression. Through this program, participants learn interviewing and public speaking skills as well as earn self-confidence and how to become more involved in their community.

Maria plans to attend Harding University in the fall of 2022 and intends to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner. Searcy School District is proud that Spearn will represent Arkansas and her school district in this prestigious program, and we wish her the very best of luck as she competes nationally for scholarship monies!
